January can go on forever… Those dark mornings and short days seem never ending ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ What can we do to inject some sunshine & cheeriness into our homes?
Here’s 4 ideas to banish those blues and refresh your home.
💡 brighten up those walls!
if you are in need of a hobby to while away the dreariness of January, maybe try a spot of painting?
Banishing dark colours and introducing light colours are an effective way to completely refresh your home. Shades of white will make a space feel brighter as it reflects the natural light entering the room, rather than absorbing it.
Avoid using brilliant white paint on walls as it can make a space feel chilly. Off-white shades will create a much warmer effect. Coat paints have a fab selection of warm whites and are available peel and stick swatches.
Another trick is to paint the ceiling a couple of shades lighter than the walls to create the illusion of height and space. Choosing a paint with a satin finish will help reflect the light more than matt paint.
🌬 bring in the light!
To me, it’s all about bringing as much natural light into your home as possible during those short daylight hours.
If you are not up for anything too drastic, something as simple as giving your windows a proper deep clean can be really effective. Also, pay attention to the greenery outside your home – cut back any climbing plants or bushes restricting light.
🌿 go green!
Up your quota of houseplants and have your own urban jungle. Not only to they look cool but they also help improve air quality (particularly useful when central heating systems dull the air).
🏠 out with the old!
I’ve mentioned this recently but January is a perfect time to declutter & make space for all the exciting things the New Year has to offer.
