Green is one of the easiest and most versatile colours to work with! Sitting at the centre of the colour wheel, it can combine with both warm and cooler shades. Greens with a blue base look great with soft chalky tones for a calming effect. Greens with a yellow undertone (eg, olive) ooze warmth when placed alongside golds or bronze.
Decorating with green is a joy and here are some of my favourite green pairings…
decorating with … green and mustard
Yellow & green are harmonious shades sitting adjacent to each other on the colour wheel and feel fresh and invigorating together.
Use yellow sparingly (or it can upset the balance and appear over stimulating!). Think of how green and yellow appear together in nature – the pops of yellow dandelions in a field of lush green grass. I suggest following the same principle dotting pops of yellow throughout a fresh green base.
decorating with … green & orange
It’s all about the contrast with these two shades. Think punchy tangerine paired with earthy forest green… Pairing green with a vivid orange will give a room scheme so much energy. It’s all about emphasising the qualities of each shade which will create a bold statement. Throw in some black too for a fab mid century vibe!
decorating with… green & pink
A modern classic combo if ever there was one! Complementary green & pink sit opposite each other on the colour wheel & serve up high impact looks. How to use them..? Proportion is everything here. A generous amount of green with a few pink touches works amazingly.
This combo feels super-nurturing & perfect for a kitchen aka the heart of a home. (I snapped this pic at deVOL Kitchens). Green & pink occur all the time in nature so it follows that botanical or floral patterns in this colour combination look magnificent too!
