I’m often asked about choosing the right window treatments for each room. What goes where and why? There’s so much choice and I know it can seem overwhelming. Fear not!! Here’s my advice on choosing the perfect window treatments for your room.
🪟 shutters
In my opinion, shutters offer a perfect combination of versatility & privacy.
They also have the unique benefit of looking just as good from the outside as they do on the inside. Shutters tend to be a more expensive option so placing them at the front of your house where they are visible from the street is a less costly solution.
Here I’ve used half (or cafe style) shutters for my west /street facing living room. Privacy was a huge issue but full window voiles would mean the room looking gloomy and lacking in natural light. These shutters provide both privacy and let in all-day natural light. Plus they look fab!
🪟 roman blinds
Their soft, beautiful draping folds are both elegant & modern. Roman blinds are really versatile but I think they go particularly well in bedrooms. Fitted to size and with thermal blackout lining, they can also help to eliminate noise & improve acoustics of a room.
🪟 roller blinds
The practicality of wipe clean vinyl makes roller blinds the perfect choice for windows in close proximity to water (e.g., above a kitchen sink!). Forget cumbersome / scruffy cords & chains! Instead keep it slick and install a motorised version operated via remote control.
🪟 curtains
Another versatile option which brings a traditional and sophisticated feel to living / dining and bedrooms. Curtains add drama dressed up with pelmets, trims and can also bring a paired down relaxed calm when dressed down with minimalist contemporary wave headers.
🪟 window film
A great way to add privacy without compromising on natural light. Adding window film is a great solution in smaller areas where there may not be the space for bulky fabrics. Also, the waterproof aspect make them perfect for bathrooms.  Forget the boring, plain frosted films of yonder, the new generation of window films include designs by cool designers like Mini Moderns.
