I understand it can be quite overwhelming when choosing paint colours for your interior design project. There are some wonderful shades and colours out there and it can feel a struggle narrowing down your favourites.
This is my tip which I find incredibly helpful when presenting and choosing paint colours for my room design schemes.
Narrowing down your paint colour selection
Supplier paint charts allow us to view all colours at a glance and are great for choosing paint sample pots.
However, I sometimes find paint charts too small to properly view the colours. It can also be hard to visualise them alongside other finishes such as tiles or fabric.
To make this process easier to visualise, I use these craft wooden discs (available from www.etsy.com) painted with 2-3 coats of my chosen colour which help to showcase the various paint finishes.
It’s so simple to play around with these discs and to test contrasting / complimentary shades together. Also, when presenting design schemes to clients, these coloured discs allow them to hold shades together or against other patterns, fabrics etc.. They are particularly useful when selecting colours to compliment existing furniture items or fixtures / fittings.
Clients feel more confident with initial paint choices when they can visualise shades together. I also find it can encourage them to be bolder with colour (which always yields fabulous results!).
Testing paint colours in situ
Obviously, we would still need to properly test the chosen colours in situ before making the final selection but that’s another blog post for another day!
Over the years I have built up a library of different paint colour discs like these painted with www.lttlegreene.com which are so useful when putting together colour schemes and finding out quickly what works and what definitely does not!
