Christmas is the perfect excuse to embrace glamour, glitter and all things shiny. Although we can have fun filling our homes with fairy lights and tinsel, it doesn’t have to mean a sacrifice of style…
When it comes to Christmas colour schemes, gold and silver are everywhere this year, which looks sophisticated, stylish & instantly festive.
🎄 get christmassy and creative
It needn’t be expensive…remember the ubiquitous paper decorations of the 80’s? Now there’re back, minus the kitsch with an edgy twist and far better for the environment than tinsel. You can get creative & make your own – a fab way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon with a mice pie & Netflix1
I particularly love these gorgeous gold star decorations from @RockettStGeorge. Go twinkly and make a statement with stars pinned above fireplaces & doors, or combine in clusters hung at varying lengths. For a more understated look, honeycomb paperballs look super-stylish hanging from the tree or table centrepiece.
Xmas decs in raw metallic materials not only have that ‘undone’ edge, but also look fabulously seasonal. As with interior design, metallics continue to be huge, with muted industrial shades of silver and brass providing shine without the glitter.
🎅 no Christmas tree? no problem!
So you don’t have a tree or have time for decorating this year…? Take some bowls or glass cylinders and fill with your favourite baubles or beads. Your home will look immediately Christmassy with zero effort.
🎁 dreaming of a trad Christmas
The more traditional nutcracker tin soldiers have been around for generations. In German tradition, these bright coloured figurines are symbols of good luck, power & strength. A longtime staple of Christmas markets, you can also pick these up at M&S in seasonal reds, greens and golds.
The White Company also do some gorgeous nordic wreathes, which look fab intertwined with a bit of festive greenery. You could also check out local wreath making classes – a fab way to socialise & get in the festive spirit at the same time!
There really are no rules to creating Christmas magic in the home … above all have fun!
