We are spending more time in our homes than ever before and dull rental home decor can be a real downer. If you are renting, you need budget friendly ideas that won’t damage walls or upset your landlord.
Here are a few ideas how to jazz up a rental or indeed any space in need of a bit of TLC!
get painting!
Typically landlords use basic white paint everywhere and they are normally ok if you want to spruce the walls up a bit (though ask first obvs!).
Coloured wall shapes, like this pastel green arch from a recent project, work really well on a neural base.
change the knobs!
Unscrew existing drawer & cabinet knobs / handles (storing them in a safe place) and DIY your own. I swapped an old brass 80’s offering for this asymmetric stone from @hmhome
decorate with nature!
Add vases of dried grasses, sculptural stones from the beach or hanging baskets of lush green houseplants. Not only a great way to jazz up your rental home decor but biophilic elements up the feel-good factor.
get a new toilet seat!
I mean….does this need any further explanation! Opt for soft close.
the 5th wall!
Who made the rule that ceilings have to be white? Painting your ceiling will have a major impact to the feel of a room.
Try a slightly darker saturation than the walls for moody depth or go for something completely contrasting (brilliant with high ceilings). Low ceiling? Paint the same colour as walls for cosy/cocooning effect.
style up your splashback!
Vinyl stickers, like these from Jes Rose Home are easy to apply and a great way to add colour and style to a boring kitchen or bathroom. Go one step further & add these fab stickers to table tops or window sills. Simply peel off when it comes to hand back your keys and your landlord will be none the wiser.
