With Christmas around the corner, you may be getting ready to welcome overnight guests into your home. Its time for the humble sofa bed to get to work and earn its keep!!
Sofa beds often get a bad rap. We know they’re unlikely to match the comfort of a real bed (though special shout out to @milano_bedding which are AMAZING!!). However sofa beds are super-useful and brilliant when you need an extra bed.
are ‘fold out’ / ‘click clack’ or ‘pull out’ sofa beds the most comfortable ? 🤔
With so many sofa beds on the market, which style works for you?
🛌 click clack / fold out sofa beds.
These options are where the sofas backrest & seat fold flat to become the bed. Therefore you’re sleeping on the sofa surface which can be quite hard. However they also tend to be the most affordable.
There are fold out options which have pocket springs in amongst the sofa foam cushioning – though this is normally reflected in cost!
🛌 pull out sofa beds
These are where the seat cushions are removed and the folding bed frame pulled out from the sofa cavity. Once assembled, these beds will take up more floor space that fold outs. However, the sleeping surface is higher from the ground & they feel more like a normal bed.
For the most comfortable sleeping experience, opt for the thickest sprung or pocket sprung mattress rather than solid foam.
Also, pull outs usually have two or three fold mattresses. Those that fold twice are generally the deeper and more comfortable option (as well as the more expensive!).
🛌 Sofa beds will feel firmer than standard sofas to sit on. Visiting a store & trying before buying is recommended! You are far more likely to use the sofa for seating than for the occasional sleeping guest, which is something to consider particularly if on a budget.
